In my life I have a lot of things to be thankful for. I am thankful for being born into the family that I'm in because there hasn't been one day I went hungry or needed clothes. When It comes to athletics I am thankful for my man Milton Woods. He pushes me on and off the track. Before he joined track there was competition. I would half jog and beat people. I wasn't being challenged and that's where Milton comes In. We were getting our times for 40 meters and his time destroyed mine. I feel as If he did that so I can improve mine, and it did.
I met Milton my freshman year and we had world studies together. I can assure you it wouldn't have been the same without him. You will never catch Milton without a smile but don't take his smile for granite. He lifts weights like a grown man with a heavy wife. Milton is great company and brightens everyone's spirit when he's around. Days he's not at track are the worst days in the world because fun out of the picture.
I know this post is suppose to be about one person but I have to throw Jack in. I am also thankful of Jack because he added flavor to every class I had with him. He has this swagger to him that you don't usual see on boys in his ethnicity. He stands out and is hottie among the ladies like myself.
In Mr. McCarthy's English class I'm thankful for Milton Woods, and Jack Rueve.

Macbethish acts yay or nay?
Macbeth's acts were not worth doing in his case but if it was for his whole life it would be. I don't see anything with cheating to get to the top of you can't be harmed. If I could cheat in baseball and not get fined or frowned upon I would. Everyone would cheat if that's the case. There would be no reason to not cheat. It would become an arms race of cheating.
The bigger question is is making it to the top worth losing close ones. If I lost my girl, bestfriend, and role model I would be lonely and empty. I'm sure the rewards from cheating would sugar coat losing close ones for a short time but nothing would be able to pull me out of the life sucking abyss.
The worthiness of cheating to get to the top depends on your upbringing. Someone who is poor but is close to family, hard working, and ambitious wouldn't cheat. Someone poor that has no hope or anyone to rely on would do whatever it takes to climb the status later and make it to the top of the food chain. All in all I would rather have Banquo's blessing so my family would never be poor. In my eyes a rich person is more likely to commit macbethish acts because they are already hungry for power. They won't feel any remorse for cheating either.
If I was in Macbeth's place I would not commit the act he did because they were justifiable. He only had power for a short period of time and for that period of time people hated him.

Modern Day Beowulf
The modern day Beowulf would be Batman. Beowulf didn't really have any super powers and neither does Batman. Beowulf was a really good fighter and batman is a black belt. They're fighting styles are kind of similar but Batman uses gadgets and has Robin to tag along. Given that I watch both movies with these guys being the main character Beowulf is more of threat to villains than Batman because it takes Batman almost the whole movie to beat Bane. Beowulf wasted no time when he was showing Grendel the ropes. Since Beowulf fought Grendel I would say it's only right if Batman threw down with "The Thing" from fantastic 4. Grendel was a sort of an easy match for Beowulf and I feel like the Thing might give Batman a little challenge. This most likely would never happen because batman is in DC universe and the Thing is in marvel. I feel like Batman would get demolished by Grendel but not his mother and I also feel like Beowulf would get smash if he fought Bane, Joker, Penguin etc. All in All Batman is as close you can get to the modern day Beowulf.

Me (Introduction)
My name is Aidan Jancevic Lawson, I'm Puerto Rican and black and I love to play sports. The sports that I play are baseball and track because I am extremely athletic. I like hip hop and R&B at all times of the especially night time. I have a lot of hobbies but my most outstanding one is my shoe game. I have exclusive Jordans, KDs, Lebrons, and Kobes and with that being said I have many casual shoes to complement them such as sperrys, Clark's, cole and haan.
This post is about the introduction into Brit Lit let me slide into it. Since everything I have read in Brit lit so far has destroyed my reading comprehension confidence I feel as the year goes on my comprehension skills with fall into play and work with me a bit. This class won't only make me a better writer but a better analyzer as well.

Malcolm X
The book "Malcolm X" has so many conflicts it kind of goes through a roller coaster effect. Malcolm goes from being a religious person to a criminal. The beginning of the book shows the struggle. Malcolm went through Malcolm moves to a house run that is ran by prostitutes. Malcolm become friends with the women and learns a great deal about the men. Sophia starts to visit Malcolm regularly. Malcolm starts working for the railroad company. The railroad company permanently blacklists Malcolm after he pulls a gun on a fellow gambler during a card game in the lower level of Grand Central Station in New York. The narcotics squad in Harlem knows Malcolm too well for him to keep drug-dealing there, so he begins a series of robberies. The Italian racketeers, the hustler Malcolm has just punched, and West Indian Archie are all out for Malcolm’s blood, and he feels more threatened than ever. Just as Malcolm thinks he is going to get shot, Shorty picks him up and takes him to Boston. So it's wild and it jumps events and its hard to keep track. I find the beginning to be the most important because it shows the struggle he went through to transform from Malcolm little to Malcolm X. I also find the discussions to be going well and it helps me to pick up things that I might have skipped.

Jr at Young
Jr would most likely fit in at Whitney because its so diverse and he wasn't in the mix at Reardan due to his ethnicity. At Reardan he was cocoa puff in a bowl full of frosted flakes. At Whitney he would be a flamin hot' in a bowl full of munchies.
Since Jr played basketball, At Whitney he would have friends because basketball is what the school is known for. I see Jr hanging around the hall ways at Whitney with the basketball players. High School is full of cliques and playing basketball can easily get you in one.
To sum it all up I feel like Jr would be able to taste the rainbow if he attended Whitney Young ;)

Hiding The Reservation
I believe that students at Whitney hide their true identity to fit in. I can connect this to the time Jr tried fitting in with the white kids at Reardan by making it seem hes not poor. This type of event happens at every school because people that start school not knowing anybody get desperate to get into the mix. The outcome for these events are usually people showing who they really are and feel relieved by their friends reactions. When Jr came out and said he was poor Roger offered to give him rides and Penelope kissed him on the cheek.

Reflection
I went into doing this project thinking that the American Dream was alive and all people looked at it positively. I had no idea how my grandfather felt about the American dream. He said he thinks people trying to achieve what they certainly cannot is like "a life sucking abyss" because its a waste of time and time is money. At the same time my neighbor Erika thought of living in public housing and striving for the best opportunity ties into the American Dream positively. I was able to get many ideas behind the American Dream which gave me a better outlook on the neighborhood.
I feel as if the American Dream can change due to your income and ethnicity. My core ideas of the American dream still stand tall but I separated the personal dreams. I use to think the American Dream is growing up and getting a job but tats just a personal goal. I think the problem now is that personal goals and the American dream have been mixed so much we don't know the difference. I connect these to my community because it shows that we know what the American dream is we just have no trust, dedication, or commitment to our personal goals to act upon it.

Protest Song
War by Edwin Starr
War, huh, yeah
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Uh-huh
War, huh, yeah
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again, y'all
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Uh-huh
War, huh, yeah
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again, y'all
War, huh, good God
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me
Ohhh, war, I despise
Because it means destruction
Of innocent lives
Because it means destruction
Of innocent lives
War means tears
To thousands of mothers eyes
When their sons go to fight
And lose their lives
To thousands of mothers eyes
When their sons go to fight
And lose their lives
I said, war, huh
Good God, y'all
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again
Good God, y'all
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again
War, whoa, Lord
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me
War, it ain't nothing
But a heartbreaker
War, friend only to the undertaker
Ooooh, war
It's an enemy to all mankind
The point of war blows my mind
War has caused unrest
Within the younger generation
Induction then destruction
Who wants to die
Aaaaah, war-huh
Good God y'all
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it, say it, say it
War, huh
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me
But a heartbreaker
War, friend only to the undertaker
Ooooh, war
It's an enemy to all mankind
The point of war blows my mind

Listen to me
War, it ain't nothing but a heartbreaker
War, it's got one friend
That's the undertaker
Ooooh, war, has shattered
Many a young mans dreams
Made him disabled, bitter and mean
Life is much to short and precious
To spend fighting wars these days
War can't give life
It can only take it away
War, it's got one friend
That's the undertaker
Ooooh, war, has shattered
Many a young mans dreams
Made him disabled, bitter and mean

War, friend only to the undertaker
Peace, love and understanding
Tell me, is there no place for them today
They say we must fight to keep our freedom
But Lord knows there's got to be a better way
War, friend only to the undertaker
Peace, love and understanding
Tell me, is there no place for them today

This is a protest song about the Vietnam War. It's more of a DIATRIBE towards war than an ENCOMIUM. This song is so significant because it was the 1st Motown song to make a political statement. I find this song very touching because war is prideful but he targets it as INSANE by saying "War means tears.. to thousands of mothers eyes...When their sons go to fight...and lose their lives." I can see this song leading anti war protest because he EVINCED his ideas about the MURKY Vietnam War. This song makes me think of wars in general. What do we fight for? Compromise should be the 1st move in any disagreement in my eyes. Compromise can tie into the time he said "They say we must fight to keep our freedom...but lord knows there must be a better way." The NEFARIOUS War that he sees can bring out true feelings from a parent of someone in the military. He EMBELLISHED the Ideas of anti war by giving examples and results of war. I feel like Edwin Starr hit it on the head by saying "Who wants to die" because that's basically the sum of war. There has never been a war involving fighting that ended death free. People join the military to serve and protect and by doing so their life is on the line. I think Edwin Starr supported the soldier but he just felt like what they were doing is useless.

Community Proposal
I live in the Near West side and I believe the view on American Dream in my neighborhood is leaning towards the point of rising up the ranks. Theres alot of section 8 housing around my house and the people living in there dream of bigger and better futures. I will try to interview someone living in section 8.

American Dream
The article I chose is
China's great Migration to Hukou hell. This article is about migrant workers
that are fueling China's economic miracle. The Migrant workers are normally
parents and they leave their kids with their grandparents to be raised and they
are also known as floating kids. These Migrant workers send money back home for
their family. The workers will travel home this year to be with family and
friends during the holiday, making it the world's largest annual migration of
people. The problem is called hukou because it is akin to an internal passport
that divides the population into rural and urban residents so the migrant
workers are prevented from accessing social services in the city they're
working in.
I connected this
article to my idea of the "American Dream" because they both deal
with providing for the family. The Migrant workers set out for work so they can
provide for their families back at home. The American Dream in my eyes is to
improve the next generation by doing everything possible for them. The Migrant
workers work hard and only travel home during the holidays because it is
normally an extremely hard commute for some workers. I can also relate this to
immigrants moving to American and later sending for their family so they can
join them in the land of opportunity.

Scary Movie Review
I love scary movies that make you think because you feel like
you're in the situation yourself and it takes you out of the real world. A few
weeks ago I watched the movie Skeleton Key which made me feel this way. This
movie is about a caretaker working at a spooky house and gets involved with its
past. Skeleton key contains a few moods that outline the suspensefulness being
that fact that it goes from sad to happy and from happy to sad. I had to watch
this movie twice to make sure what I saw the first time was real. I think Irony
has the biggest role in this movie because nothing happens that you expect to
happen which contributes to the suspensefulness as well. Throughout the movie I
noticed myself rocking back and forth unconsciously 1st and the 2nd time I
watched it. I feel as if you just watch the movie with an empty mind you wouldn’t
be really scared but If you pay attention to the movie and notice key details
you wouldn’t be able to sleep at night. I liked this movie because it made me
think but the ending crushed me and the movies rating went down in my eyes. Everyone
loves a sad or scary movie with a happy ending and the movies with scary or sad
endings just ruin people’s day. If you like not being able to guess what is
going to happen next in a movie than I recommend the Skeleton key for you.
